The First Time I Ate Without Tracking Calories

For months I tracked every single bite. It started as a way to feel in control, but it slowly turned into something else entirely.

When the numbers became the main character

Every meal became a calculation. I would weigh the peanut butter188 kcal, measure the oats150 kcal, log the banana105 kcal. The numbers gave me a strange sense of safety, but they also made eating feel like homework instead of something my body needed.

The morning I stopped opening the app

One morning I woke up and just didn't open the tracking app. I made breakfast the old way — by eye, by hunger, by what actually sounded good. The relief was immediate.

I'm not saying tracking is always bad. But for me, it had started to take more than it gave. Removing it felt like putting down a heavy bag I'd been carrying without realizing how much it weighed.
