Three weeks eating more with the same scale number

Every morning for three weeks I saw the same number on the scale. I was eating more than I ever had in my life. I finished meals even on days when I had no appetite. The number did not change.

A flat number is not dramatic. I kept finishing meals every day, and the feedback I trusted kept saying nothing had changed.

I kept eating anyway. I did not feel noble about it. I finished the meals I had little appetite for, went to bed, woke up, and checked the scale again. It stayed the same every morning for three weeks.

Changes the scale did not show

Around week three I stopped weighing myself every day. Without that number each morning, I noticed other things. My clothes fit differently. My arms looked a little fuller. Those changes had been building the whole time, just not on the scale.

The number still mattered to me. That stretch showed me which signs appear first. My clothes already reflected change while the scale had not moved.

Now when the number stalls, I look at other evidence before I decide nothing is happening. For three weeks the scale stayed the same each morning, while my clothes were already fitting differently.
